Opened in August 2023, Maybole Community Campus is a modern, four-storey education and community facility in South Ayrshire, designed to accommodate up to 1,370 pupils across Early Years, Primary, and Secondary levels. The campus brings together Carrick Academy, St Cuthbert’s Primary School, Cairn Primary School, and Gardenrose Primary School, creating an inspiring and unified learning environment.
In addition to academic spaces, the campus features extensive community-use facilities, bringing together Maybole Swimming Pool, Maybole Police Station, as well as a fitness suite, gym, and sports halls. Developed by hub South West Scotland for South Ayrshire Council, the project focuses on comfort, sustainability, and efficiency, featuring a solar PV array, a wind turbine, and rooftop Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs).
Since September 2024, the campus has been using Nova to monitor and optimise its energy performance, and the results have been outstanding.
Using Nova’s Annual Energy Consumption widget, the campus has been able to clearly visualise and categorise its energy use across key systems:
DHW, Equipment, Heat Pumps, Lighting, Power, and Solar Generation.
Thanks to Nova's integration, the school can monitor performance in real time and receive alerts if consumption trends indicate they are moving out of scope.
This ensures timely action can be taken to stay on track with targets and maintenance compliance.
As of April 2025, Maybole Campus is operating at just 45.14 kWh/m² per annum—well below the LEIP Band A threshold. This puts the site in one of the top-performing energy bands and secures long-term funding under the LEIP outcomes-based model.
To further enhance control and clarity, Nova's Monthly Meter Data widget was installed, enabling users to:
This hands-on approach means energy teams can stay informed and agile, identifying trends or anomalies as they emerge.
A recent addition to the dashboard is Nova’s Daily Heat Pump Coefficient widget.
This tool tracks the Coefficient of Performance (CoP) for heat pumps—helping staff monitor how efficiently energy is being converted into usable heat on a daily basis.
With heat pumps often being one of the largest energy consumers in buildings, understanding and improving CoP can have a major impact on operational efficiency.
Thanks to Nova’s suite of visual tools and live data integration, Maybole Community Campus is not only exceeding energy performance targets, but doing so with clarity, confidence, and control.
